The internal layer of the gut is a folded tissue, folded many times to cover the inside of the small gut with a wrinkled surface. These deep ravines maximize its absorbing power, reaching to touch all the particles and all the fluids, and rescue every nutritious thing that passes through. Mixed up with the absorbing cells are the fat goblet cells, posed to pour their contents into the gut. What can’t be got to now will be collected down the line. Dance microvilli, dance to your peristaltic tune.
