Cardiac Muscle

Fields of myofibrils stretch along, contracting and relaxing to the rhythm of the beat. Between the muscle fibres, power-generating mitochondria are carefully packed in: space is precious here. Only the nucleus is allowed to occupy a lake-sized chunk of space. The rest is the territory of aligned fibrils, bending to a non-stop life of rhythmic, pulsating contractions.
