Fat tissue

Adipose tissue stores fat inside our bodies, fat that provides warmth, padding, support, and an energy reserve that the body can burn out when need arises. Each cell collects all the fatty material it receives in a huge vacuole that takes most of the space. The nucleus and other organelles are relegated to the periphery: a thin layer of cell surrounding a fat bubble. Like pebbles in a beach, they repeat a pattern that brings to mind warmth and gaiety.
